Hi, I’m John Aldred. I’ve been a content creator of some description for more than two decades. I’ve been building online communities and creating written, photographic, and video content for them – and others – since 2002. I’ve worked in a number of industries in that time, covering a wide range of subject matter.
I’ve written all my life, although I’ve never really considered myself a writer. Even having done it full time for almost a decade now, I still feel more of a photographer with a keyboard at heart.
Photography and video have been something I have been interested in all my life. But I never really got the opportunity to play with either properly until I was an adult. At that point, I could buy my own toys, and it sucked me right in.
For the decade prior, I’d been a programmer, and I kept up with that for a few years after first getting a camera. But after a while, the camera became my main focus and passion – whether stills or video. Coding is something that’s come to the fore in my life again recently.
As I mentioned, I’ve been primarily a writer for the last nine years. In that time, I’ve written over 7,000 articles for various websites (primarily DIYP) and manufacturers of photography and video equipment. As well as general news coverage and educational content, I also create in-depth reviews in both written and video form.
Side note for reviews: If you’re thinking about sending me something for review, please know I’m currently limiting new review projects. However, I’m open to exceptions for 3D printing, desktop fibre laser, live streaming, or storage-related gear (NAS, SSDs, etc.). Feel free to get in touch if that’s your focus.
Other side note: If you run or organise any 1980s-themed events in or near Glasgow and wouldn’t mind me and friend coming to filming stuff on old-school camcorders for a personal project, also get in touch!
I am available to write your article, photograph your product, or create videos about its features and usage. Whatever your content needs, get in touch for a chat. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution, so we’ll tailor something just for you.
